Jobs can be the best extracurricular activity
I am a firm believer in the value of young people working those part time jobs in restaurants, retail or grocery stores, landscaping, etc. When a teenager is out in the world working, they learn how to relate to people from different backgrounds and ages. They learn what they are good at and how to get along with people. They often gain an appreciation for the importance of education and what they might not want to do forever.
Some of my best friends were made making subs and pizzas. I had a real eye opening experience working at a factory too. In both places I learned that I loved organizing and talking with people. It's important to talk to young people about these jobs and what they are learning along the way! https://www.nytimes.com/2022/07/30/opinion/jobs-teenagers.html
